Wendy had already figured out how to attack the yokai by enchanting herself and Erza with spirit power. Gray never got to fight Skullion again, because the moment he came back Skullion ran away. Part of the problem with Skullion and Madmole was that you couldn't damage them conventionally. Natsu literally had one of his best attacks at that point no sold. Narratively Gray and Natsu are around the same level of power. This is coming right after everyone witnessed Natsu's demolition fist against Yoko. In Elentir Gray's power was said to rival Natsu when he pulled out those Golems. If Lucy in the current arc can beat Kyria, and one arc prior Gray was shown superior based on their performance against the moonlight beauty gods, then there's no doubt that Gray would win in round 2.Īlso not sure how you came to the conclusion that base Natsu is stronger. Even Gray himself displayed this with his fight against Hakune and his Victory was even more Casual than Erza's.
Oneshot the first time, fights evenly the next. Everyone does better the second time around and that continues even now. The only difference with Gray is that the author didn't find the time to squeeze in a round 2. Is Erza weaker than Kyria because she lost round 1 (to hax mind you in the same way Gray lost solely to hax) No. Is Natsu weaker than Madmole cause he lost round 1?
